Igino A. Pettine nacque a Pescolanciano, oggi provincia di Isernia, il 4 gennaio del 1888. A soli diciotto anni decise di rincorrere il “sogno americano”. Giunse ad “Ellis Island”, nel 1906, a bordo della “Prinzess Irene”. Di vivace intelligenza e dotato di un notevole spirito di intraprendenza non impiegò molto ad ambientarsi negli Stati Uniti. Giunto a Detroit iniziò da subito a lavorare.
Fece ogni tipo di attività, dalle più pesanti a quelle più umilianti, e intanto di notte studiava per apprendere la nuova lingua. Nel 1913 sposò Giuseppina Ferrara nata ad Agnone ( fu responsabile della “Società Abruzzi e Molise femminile) . Dal matrimonio nacquero cinque figli: Ida, Pasquale, Nevio “Nevis” (sposò Marian Jonas dalla quale ebbe due figli Douglas e Laurene. Morì nel novembre del 1950), Blanche ed Eugene.
