Book Presentation: "The selected poetry of Pier Paolo Pasolini" - October 23, 2014 - November 2, 2014

Oct 21, 2014 1098

On the Occasion of the 14th Annual Italian Language Week in the World, presented under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic of Italy, The Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago Andrea Raos is pleased to invite you to the presentation of "The Selected Poetry of Pier Paolo Pasolini".

Presentation of The Selected Poetry of Pier Paolo Pasolini by editor and translator Stephen Sartarelli (University of Chicago Press, 2014) and Pasolini scholar Armando Maggi (University of Chicago).

Most people outside Italy know Pier Paolo Pasolini for his films, many of which began as literary works-Arabian Nights, The Gospel According to Matthew, The Decameron, and The Canterbury Tales among them. What most people are not aware of is that he was primarily a poet, publishing nineteen books of poems during his lifetime, as well as a visual artist, novelist, playwright, and journalist. For the first time, Anglophones will now be able to discover the many facets of this singular poet.

"Pasolini is known as a filmmaker and political rebel, and for his tragic death, yet he was first and most importantly a poet. Sartarelli's brilliant translations have at last made his searingly beautiful poetry available to English-language readers." John Ashbery

This event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. Co-presented by the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago Press. Special thanks to Perugina for its support of this event.

Location: Italian Cultural Institute, 500 N Michigan Avenue, Suite 1450, Chicago, IL
