A short history of Italian migration from Trenton to Robbinsville

By: Jeff Edelstein

Robbinsville is ruining it all. All right fine, that’s not fair. They’re not ruining it completely. But they’re damn close to ruining it all. Of course, I’m talking about the rankings of “Most Italians Living in One Town in New Jersey,” where Hamilton ranks fourth in the state with 20,559 Italians, according to the 2015 Census numbers. Toms River leads the state with 29,778.

So how is Robbinsville ruining things? Because there’s 3,699 Italians in Robbinsville, up from roughly zero a few decades ago. Heck, Robbinsville — then known as Washington — only had 3,500 residents back in 1980. Today, it’s nearly 14,000. So yeah. They’re almost ruining the whole thing.
