Neno Sartini, one of Northeastern Pennsylvania's leading advocates for veterans, died on Tuesday afternoon, his wife said. He was 85. Sartini served in the Air Force for 27 years, retiring as a master sergeant. The Wilkes-Barre man fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.
Sartini attributed lifelong health problems to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. Upon returning home, Sartini championed veterans causes by lobbying legislators at the county, state and federal level. He was a leader in the effort to build the Korean and Vietnam war memorials on the south lawn of the Luzerne County Courthouse.
