Trumpets, bagpipes and smiles flooded several blocks this afternoon as the annual Christopher Columbus Day Parade made its way from Palisade and Newark avenues down to City Hall on Grove Street. The march put Italian heritage and pride on full display.
People gathered at various parade viewing areas -- including Healy's Tavern, Gia Gelato, The Hard Grove and City Hall Plaza -- but many attendees either smiled and waved from the sidewalks or stood outside their stores or businesses as the marchers passed. Participants cheered and waved Italian flags as they made their way down the parade route.
