We all know about Frank Sinatra the singer. But how much do we known about Sinatra the civil rights activist? Maybe not as much as we should, but those who attend the Sinatra Centennial symposium — noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Hall on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch — will perhaps have a better understanding.
"Going back as early as 1945, when he did the movie 'The House I Live In,' it put Sinatra way ahead of the vanguard of celebrities demanding racial and religious tolerance in this country," said Bob Santelli, executive director of the Grammy Museum, a Monmouth alumni and the symposium's keynote speaker.
