The Italian Saxophone Quartet comes to the University of New Orleans on Tuesday (April 8), capping the concert season for the Musical Excursions series with another show that embraces a rare instrumental combination. (The UNO series hosted the Ethos Percussion Group in February.)
The Italians banded together three decades ago, around the time that certain American improvisers were latching onto the same idea. Remember the avant-garde firestorms dished up by World Saxophone Quartet and Rova Saxophone Quartet?
