Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta giving NASL an Italian renaissance with Miami FC

Miami is well known for its Cuban and Hispanic neighbourhoods but the city's soccer community has now developed a strong Italian influence. For Little Havana, read Little Milan. Earlier this year Riccardo Silva, a multi-millionaire Italian TV rights magnate, and Paolo Maldini, the former AC Milan and Italy legend, teamed up to launch Miami FC in the North American Soccer League.

Since then Maldini's former Milan defensive partner Alessandro Nesta has joined as head coach and Mauro Pederzoli, who worked at the Rossoneri's youth team, has become technical director. And two weeks ago the club announced that Italian sportswear company Macron were the new technical sponsors, providing the club's playing strip, replica kit, training wear and other clothing merchandise.
