The Federation of Italian American Organizations Queens (FIAO) celebrated the 30th anniversary of its 5K Run to Fight Drug Abuse, which was sponsored by SB One Bank. Runners come from all boroughs to compete in the heat and humidity, in an out and back course.
The race was started by Vito Gianola, former senior vice president of SB One Bank, who also presides over the awards ceremony for the various age group winners. The overall winner was Azward Sdurve with a time of 18:22. The first female was Elizabeth Olivera with a time of 21:07. Additionally, a fun run was held for the younger children, and refreshments were given to everyone.
