Giovanni Mazzarino has been playing jazz since 1980. He is considered one of the most important Italian jazz players and has performed with important jazz musicians such as Enzo Randisi, Mimmo Cafiero, Gianni Basso, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, among others. In 2002, he was named best new jazz artist at the Italian Jazz Awards.
He has participated in several famous jazz festivals worldwide including Umbria Jazz, the Marciac Jazz Festival, and the Dubai Philips Festival, and has recorded 16 albums as bandleader and composer. As of 2013, Mazzarino is the artistic director of the Messina Sea Jazz Festival in Sicily, Italy.
