Sports Hall of Fame inducts boxer Joe Tiberi

Joe Tiberi, one of the top boxers in Delaware history, was among nine athletes inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum & Hall of Fame, and honored at the state’s premier sports banquet on May 18 in Wilmington. Joe Tiberi had an amateur boxing record of 44-4-2 with 31 knockouts, followed by a professional record of 18-5-2 with 13 knockouts during the 1970s and 1980s. He fought eight undefeated boxers, beating five of them.

The Tiberi family was been notable in the region’s boxing world for decades. Joe’s brother Dave was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 2001, and his son Joey was also a successful boxer. He and his wife LuAnn live in Bear.
