Tourism: 216 mln presences expected in Italy between June and August

Italian tourism continues to grow. And after a 2024 start with a plus sign - in the first five months of the year, presences in accommodation facilities grew by +3.8 percent - the summer forecast is also positive: between June and August, 216 million tourist presences in official accommodation facilities are expected, an increase of +1.5 percent over last summer.

Foreign tourists will still drive the summer quarter, while Italian demand is expected to remain basically stable. In detail, foreign presences are expected to reach 105 million (a jump of +2.5 percent), while the Italian market will mark +0.5 percent, for a total of more than 110.9 million estimated presences. Among non-European markets, reports of increases were recorded mainly for the U.S. market.

The greatest growth will be recorded by facilities in cities and art centers (+2%), followed by seaside offerings (+1.4%), lakes and spa resorts (both +1.1%) and finally mountain resorts (+0.4%). Some difference in trends is also expected for the macro areas of the country with a slightly higher estimate for the Northwest and South/Islands regions of +1.9% and +2%, respectively. For the Central regions, the estimated change is +1.3% and +1.1% for the Northeast.
