OLMC Feast Returns in July to Carry the Giglio Tradition in Brooklyn

By: Barbara Russo

radition continues as the annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast of the Giglio returns to Brooklyn to delight families and kids of all ages. The two-week Italian festival will run July 6-17.

The festival is marked by fun celebrations near the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on North Eighth and Havemeyer Streets. The highlight of the feast is the Dance of the Giglio, when more than 100 people lift a 4-ton, 70-foot tall statue called the Giglio—surely a sight to see!
