Morris Catholic High School's Italian Club on Thursday, Feb. 11, visited Sergio's on Broadway in Denville to learn more about the Italian culture. Students observed a demonstration by owner, Sergio Sciancalepore, on the making of mozzarella, all the while listening to his boyhood stories of working alongside his mother, father, and uncle, all Italian immigrants.
Students were then treated to prosciutto di Parma, Parmiggiano Reggiano with Balsamic vinegar, rice balls and the mozzarella -made moments before, with extra virgin olive oil from Sicily, and cannoli. "Being able to see food such as mozzarella being made before their eyes, helps bring the Italian culture beyond the textbooks. It is an experience they will never forget," said club adviser, Marc Mariani.
