Miniatures are marvels of Medieval and Renaissance art that are only accessible to a happy few.
Except for the large illuminated books made for church choirs, which could be consulted on the book rests by dozens of monks at the same time, or the liturgical books that were read by multiple people (Bibles, Missals, Psalters etc.), the large majority of illuminated books was actually intended for the joy of just a pair of eyes at a time.
