This lecture will trace the development of technical and aesthetic excellence in Italian Renaissance painting by highlighting the works of Raphael Sanzio, the pre-eminent Renaissance painter. How did Renaissance painters do such incredible works in portraiture, religious paintings, classical works, and such immense works in fresco? The artist Raphael mastered all these formats and his career spanned the very end of the 15th century into the early part of the 16th century. Presented by John Coppola.
