Vicenza, founded in the 2nd century B.C., prospered under Venetian rule from the early 15th century to the late 18th century. Famous for its architectural heritage, the city holds the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to the works of Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio (Padua, 1508 - Maser, 1580), who created the unmistakable style present in the city’s architecture.

Palladio’s most famous works include The Rotunda, a symbol of Palladian architecture, and the Olympic Theater, the architect’s last work and a marvel of Renaissance theater architecture.
