In 2021 rose to 58 the number of Italian sites that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now the ranking of the 10 most famous and visited has come out, thanks to the analysis of reviews on Google. All categories have been evaluated: cultural sites, natural sites (5) and cultural landscapes (8) that are part of the 58 UNESCO wonders.

However, historical centers and cities were not included in the analysis because they could not be identified with one or more of the attractions reviewed, while for sites consisting of a collection of assets, the number of reviews of each individual attraction was added up. With 88,340 reviews on Google, the Piazza del Duomo in Pisa, Tuscany, leads the ranking of Italy's most popular UNESCO sites.

In second place is Arab-Norman Palermo and the cathedrals of Cefalù and Monreale in Sicily. In third place is the Amalfi Coast in Campania, first in the cultural landscapes category. This is followed in fourth place by the Savoy Residences in Piedmont. In fifth place are the archaeological excavations of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata in Campania. In sixth place is the cultural landscape of Portovenere and the Cinque Terre in Liguria. In seventh place again are some wonderful archaeological sites, this time those of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano in Campania. In Campania there is also the eighth wonder in the ranking: the Reggia di Caserta. In ninth place Sicily with the archaeological area of Agrigento, better known as the Valley of the Temples. In tenth place the Sassi and the Rupestrian Churches of Matera in Basilicata.
