Record year for visitors and revenue at Italy’s state museums and archaeological parks in 2024

2024 marked an all-time record for both visitors and revenue at Italy’s state-run museums and archaeological parks. Last year, Italian cultural sites welcomed 60 million visitors—a 5.3% increase compared to 2023—and generated an impressive €382 million in revenue, up 23% from the previous year.

Of the 299 institutions that charge admission, 31 million visitors paid for entry, while another 19 million visited on free-admission days. Meanwhile, the 154 institutions that are always free saw 9 million visits. Breaking down the numbers further: museums drew 18 million visitors, while monuments and archaeological areas attracted 31 million.
