It's been a big year for Mets great Mike Piazza. In January, Piazza was elected to the Hall of Fame, and he'll be formally enshrined at Cooperstown (with a Mets cap) during a special ceremony on July 24. Shortly therafter, the Mets will honor Piazza by retiring his No. 31 during "Mike Piazza Weekend" from July 29-31 at Citi Field.
Now, Piazza will begin to make inroads into another sport: Soccer. Piazza announced Wednesday via Twitter that he's agreed in principle to purchase a majority share of Italian soccer club A.C. Reggiana 1919 of the Lega Pro league. An ardent soccer fan, Piazza had previously expressed interest in buying Parma, another Italian club.
