Italy’s beer exports grew 16% last year

The Italians are able to export even beer, which is a typical product of Northern Europe. Last year, according to data from trade group Federalimentare, Italian beer exports were €154 million, up 16%, while imports remained stable at €490 million, up 0.8%.

This is because of the multinationals that control this industry in Italy, especially Heineken and SabMiller-Peroni. "We gave an Italian flavor to beer, a product that apparently is not part of our tradition but, I recall, has been produced in Italy since the 1800s at least," remarked Alberto Frausin, president of Assobirra trade group.
