Italy, said writer Ennio Flaiano, is the country where “anything can happen, even deciding to stay.” To help us stay, and maybe get lost, in a smart way, amid its villages and archaeological sites, highway company Autostrade per l'Italia launched the project “Sei in un Paese Meraviglioso” (”You are in a wonderful country”) turning Italy's highway network into an open-air tourist guide.
In service areas, motorists will find information boards and multimedia screens suggesting five unusual field trips, all little known and off the beaten track, but near the rest stops and easily accessible from the toll exits: the routes were worked out with the Italian Touring Club and Slow Food, in collaboration with Italy's Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
