We the Italians, the Italian media company dedicated to the promotion of Italy among the Italian American community, asked a representative sample of Italians in America who would be their favorite President of the Republic. Please follow the video explaining how the President is voted, here https://youtu.be/Uau6DeQMRyI

In the United States, those with Italian origins and American citizenship are used to voting (almost) directly for their President. So, We the Italians selected a few thousand Italian Americans, divided into each of the 9 areas in which it has geographically divided the United States, and last weekend asked them who they would like to be in the Quirinal for the next 7 years, if they could vote directly in Italy.

We selected, without any preference on our part, 10 names that could contain among them the name that will be voted by the Italian Parliament. The poll was absolutely anonymous, and almost 3,000 people responded, 2,884 to be exact. The 10 names have been proposed in strict alphabetical order: among them also Silvio Berlusconi appears because the poll started when he had not yet announced his retirement.

The result is as follows, in order of preference by the Italian American community:

MARIO DRAGHI – 35,5%

SERGIO MATTARELLA – 29,2%

SILVIO BERLUSCONI – 13,9%

MARIA ELISABETTA ALBERTI CASELLATI – 5,3%

PIERFERDINANDO CASINI – 4,5%

MARTA CARTABIA – 3,9%

ELISABETTA BELLONI – 2,7%

PAOLO GENTILONI – 2,4%

GIULIANO AMATO – 1,4%

GIANNI LETTA – 1,2%
