Of the many restoration works currently underway in Italy, some involve complexes of outstanding significance, on which substantial resources are being invested and that could give a significant boost to the country's economy, besides representing a precious heritage for humanity. Here is a selection of 10 of these gems.
Badly damaged by the earthquake of 2009, the St. Bernardino Basilica reopened on May 2 after six years of restoration, which cost €25 million. The restoration of the golden wooden false ceiling in the central nave was financed through a €300,000 donation from the Cassa di Risparmio dell'Aquila Foundation.
