Welcomed by the Italian national anthem, the Amerigo Vespucci ship (which turned 94 years old last February 22) arrived last Saturday at the port of Trieste, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, after two years of sailing around the world, during which it visited 30 countries, five continents, 35 ports, and covered 46,000 nautical miles.
The salute of the Frecce Tricolori accompanied the historic tall ship as it began the docking maneuvers in front of Piazza Unità d'Italia, packed with joyful people surrounded by the Carabinieri Cavalry Band and the Bersaglieri. It was a special flyover because the Frecce Tricolori, founded on March 1, 1961, were celebrating their anniversary.
