The invention of the modern coffee machine is credited to Angelo Moriondo, an Italian entrepreneur from Turin, who patented the first steam-powered device for brewing coffee in 1884. This revolutionary machine laid the foundation for the espresso machines we know today.
Angelo Moriondo came from a family of innovators and entrepreneurs. His grandfather founded a successful liquor company, and his father established the Moriondo and Gariglio chocolate company, which later became Caffarel. Building on this heritage of innovation, Angelo turned his attention to coffee, recognizing the need for a faster method of brewing to meet the demands of busy cafés.
