Nestled along Italy’s breathtaking Amalfi Coast, a living testament to centuries of human ingenuity and natural beauty has achieved a momentous honor: its terraced landscapes - host to lemons, olives, and vineyards - have been named a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) by the Food and Agriculture Organization.
This distinction celebrates dynamic, resilient agricultural ecosystems that harmonize biodiversity, traditional knowledge, cultural identity, and sustainable stewardship. The Costa d’Amalfi now joins an exclusive club of 102 such sites worldwide, spanning 29 countries - with Italy now represented by three, alongside the olives of Assisi and Spoleto and the vineyards of Soave.
