Twenty of the most famous Italian museums – the Uffizi Museum in Florence, the Borghese Gallery in Rome, the Royal Palaces of Caserta and Capodimonte, the Archaeological Museum in Reggio Calabria with the Riace Bronzes, and the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, to name a few – will soon be headed by new top managers, including seven foreigners.
This is a first time, for Italy. Until today, Italian art institutions were headed by directors appointed by the Culture Ministry. In most cases the directors had outstanding resumes, university degrees in archaeology and history of art, and experience on the field with illustrious experts of Italy's cultural heritage.
