Tony & Lucille’s calls it a day after a half century in the kitchen

By: Mary E. O'Leary

After 53 years in the business, Tony & Lucille’s restaurant, a multi-generational family anchor in Wooster Square, will serve its last dinner Sunday night. It is part of the evolving landscape on Wooster Street where some iconic places have changed hands, although longtime businesses continue to draw crowds to New Haven’s Little Italy.

Tony Sacco, 84, and his wife, Lucille Sacco, 83, have sold the property at 150 Wooster St. to a developer. The couple and their adult children, who grew up in the restaurant, working alongside their parents for decades, say it is a bittersweet moment, but it is the right time to retire.
