A beloved family-owned deli in Orange County closed Thursday night after 50 years in business. One by one, customers stopped by the Big 3 Deli in Newburgh just as they've done for decades. This time, however, it was to say their final goodbyes. "People are sad. I know. It's an end of an era," said owner Cindy Gironda-Post. That era began with Gironda-Post's first generation Italian American parents and uncle back in the 1960s.
She has fond memories growing up in the deli. "Eating dinner in the back. We always had family dinner, even though my parents worked 9 to 9," she recalled. Gironda-Post and her brother grew up at the deli on North Plank Road, as have many of their customers.
