A Rhode Island-based gambling giant starts life Tuesday as a new company, with a new name, the result of a previously announced merger. The merger combined GTECH, the world's largest provider of lottery systems, with International Game Technology, the world's largest slot-machine maker.
"Over the next three years it will be a matter of consolidating this bigger company," said Marco Sala, the company's chief executive officer. "We can start working on all the stuff we have in front of us." The $6.4-billion transaction included $4.7 billion in cash and stock and the assumption of $1.7 billion of the slot maker's debt.
