A handmade gourd rattle made from a turtle shell was one of the first instruments created by Native Americans and probably earliest man. It was the first instrument demonstrated by the second featured speaker for the new Arts Council of Tahlequah 2nd Sunday at 2 history program on Oct. 8.
Dr. Carl Farinelli provided facts and stories about the history of music to the audience, and performed a variety of tunes on several instruments. Ways art music and dance are infused into other areas of life were emphasized by Farinelli. "When you think about taking notes when you were a student, how many of you doodled on the paper, too?" he asked.
