Italian Proclamation in Orange County

On 24 of October in Orlando, Florida at County Mayor's City Hall, the Honorary Consul of Orlando, the Lawyer Antonella Brancaccio after one year of negotiations with the administration of Orange County’s Mayor, Jerry Demings, has managed to get a proclamation that recognizes the Italian contribution in the geographic area. The Honorary Consul, opened by saying that in a world where the division is the rule Orlando shows unity and democracy.

She went on by pointing out the contribution the Italians have made in the cultural and economic development of the area referring to the number of growing companies and jobs created, the contribution of the researchers/ astronauts at the Kennedy Space, the number of the increasing students at UCF- department of Italian, the number of tourists in the parks and surrounding areas.

Then she reminded that the contribution of the Italians goes back to the Declaration of Independence of 1776 where the famous words “we the people” were conceived by the Neapolitan Filangieri.

The Mayor said that he is opened to the celebration of the different cultures, underlining the tremendous contribution of the Italians in the County, acknowledging the cultural and economic contribution.

Participating not only the whole Municipal Council of the County, representatives of the City of Orlando, authorities and local organizations, representatives of local Italian institutions but also some coming from the entire Florida such as the Carabinieri, Comites, NIAF, Casa Italia, the Circolo, the Italian-American Bar Association. Not only but at the public ceremony have participated also Consuls General who honor our nation and our contribution.

After the formal ceremony a conference was held at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where the Professor Baggio, associate professor of  politics and international affairs and the Dean of the Department of Italian, Dr. Brodie gave a presentation.

The great celebration ended on the 27th with Puccini masterpiece, Tosca, presented by the Opera of Orlando in honor of Beautiful Country. On this occasion a Press Conference attended by the Italian Honorary Consul was held, during the welcome cocktail where everything was Made in Italy.
