The author of a book about Italian-born stone carver Luigi Del Bianco, who resided in Barre, is hailing the federal government's decision to recognize Del Bianco as the chief carver of Mount Rushmore. Doug Gladstone said he heard about Del Bianco's work on Mount Rushmore and his family's quest for him to be recognized on the radio and set out to help.
"This slight, I found out about it by listening to a National Public Radio show in 2010 when two relatives of Luigi Del Bianco were trying to go to bat for him. They were claiming their grandfather and ... father was unfairly being left out of the history books," Gladstone said.
