There's a corner in downtown Albion that beckons to people with a sense of good times and belonging. The brick building there is a bit old-fashioned, but those who walk through its doors and catch a whiff of the pizza, steaks or roasting peanuts and cashews inside wouldn't want Cascarelli's to change a bit.
"This place is the heart of the town," said Barb McAuliffe, a lifelong Albion resident who's been a regular at the family-owned eatery for years. Cascarelli's has occupied the building at 116 S. Superior St. for 106 years. It's seen Albion's boom industry days and watched those factories and the city's population leave.
