Italian-American Festival's declining numbers put end to event

Arrivederci! Tuscarawas County Italian-American Festival officials are bidding goodbye to the festival founded in 1989, but are proud of its legacy of providing scholarships and memories. President Bob Mueller, of Dover, said that the festival foundation's executive board — and later the full membership — voted unanimously in October to end the annual event held in August.

"Maybe we should have closed up last year," he said. "We lost a lot of money this year." However, all of the bills are paid, as officials sold one of the festival's two stages; a camper used for selling cookies; and a large trailer featuring the festival logo. A few items remain for sale, including the other stage and some fence.
