Barbara Buono, the Democratic candidate for governor, took her campaign today to a small shop in Little Falls that bears a familiar name: Buono's Prime Meats & Deli.
Her cousin has owned the Italian deli on Main Street for 18 years, and Buono appeared there today stressing the need for New Jersey to provide more help to small businesses like this one.
"Ninety-five percent of all businesses in New Jersey are small businesses," Buono, a state senator from Middlesex County, said. "And they're the ones that are crying out for help."
With eight days left until Election Day, Buono began a key week in her effort to close a wide gap against Gov. Chris Christie. Polls show her trailing Christie — a popular Republican with a national profile — by more than 20 percentage points.
