With the goal of bringing in the "Orange County", famous to most for a teen movie of a few years ago, the best of classic and contemporary filmography from all over the world, the Newport Beach Film Festival will start today, april 24.

Designed and created with the objective of giving birth to an international first class event, as every year the festival features a series of side events dedicated to give greater attention to educational projects, carried out in collaboration with local schools and on annual basis, to bring the younger participants in the world of cinema. The strong point of the festival is indeed to succeed for years to create a strong point of encounter and exchange between young novice filmmakers novice and the movie system.

Obviously, the main protagonists are the projects, selected among the thousands of applications received, from a jury that had quite a job to do to select the best products between independent films and also between big productions.

In fact, the competition has eight categories, for which the festival received more than 2,700 films candidates from all around the world, in the following segments.

Action Sports Films; AA + D (Art, Architecture and Design Film Series); Documentaries; Environmental Films; Family Films; Music Films; Short Films; Youth Film

Definitely unique, but inevitably tied to the scenic frame of the ocean and its long correlated filmography, the category of films dedicated to sporting feats. In fact, every year the festival receives countless projects devoted to the history of disciplines such as skateboarding, snowboarding, and of course surfing.

Then, a big space is devoted to the "Italian Spotlight", the section dedicated to the recent Italian cinema. This year the protagonist will be Maria Sole Tognazzi 's "Viaggio Sola" (A five star life) with Margherita Buy, Stefano Accorsi, Fabrizia Sacchi.

Another aspect not to be underestimated is the one regarding the many glamorous events linked to the festival, realized thanks to the well-established collaboration with local institutions such as with the Orange County Film Society, the Orange County Museum of Art, the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, The Studio at Sage Hill, the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center, the Newport Bay Conservancy, the OC Parks, the Newport Beach Public Library, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, UC Irvine and the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.
