Casa Italia's Italian film series represents a groundbreaking collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura and its new director, Alberta Lai. "The Istituto has a long tradition of screening Italian films at its downtown offices," says Casa Language and Culture Chairman Josette Weber. "This is the first time they've opened the door to screenings out in the community. We deeply appreciate their generosity of spirit."
Weber proudly introduced Lai and Italian Senatore Renato Turano at the May 20 screening. Turano presented Lai with a medallion in recognition of her pivotal role in making the film series possible. Next up in the series is "Tutti i santi giorni" (Every Blessed Day), which will be screened on June 17. Directed by Paolo Virzi, this gritty 2012 romantic dramedy tells the story of Guido and Antonia, a young couple whose lives are dramatically altered when they decide to have a child out of wedlock. (Italian with English subtitles.) Fra Noi Editor Paul Basile will once again introduce the film and lead the discussion afterward.
