The La Scala Chamber Orchestra (Cameristi della Scala) will perform at MIT Kresge Auditorium on Monday, October 7, 2013, at 7 p.m. as the kick-off of their U.S. tour.
In celebration of Giuseppe Verdi's 200th birthday, I Cameristi della Scala perform a program of fantasies from Verdi's operas. In the 1800s, these musical pieces were made popular in the form of transcriptions and adaptations.
The authors of these transcriptions, fantasies, or paraphrases, are well-known virtuosos who used the famous opera themes to display their talent as composers and performers. Many of these pieces lay forgotten until they were recently rediscovered by the Cameristi della Scala.
This event is being sponsored by MIT President Rafael Reif and Eni in recognition of the close relationship between Eni and MIT.
