Southern Italian Region Will Pay You to Move There, So Long as You’re Relatively Young (and Willing to Work)

A picturesque region of southern Italy has vowed to pay young people up to $32,000 to move there, as long as they start a new business or take one of the jobs that local villages are desperate to fill. Foreigners can get creative about what type of business they'd like to launch, whether a bed-and-breakfast, a farm, or a restaurant.

There are some major catches though: For one, applicants have to move within 90 days of their application being approved. They must also be under the age of 40 and can only live in nine towns that each have fewer than 2,000 residents. Calabria, the "toe" of Italy's boot, is in desperate need of workers. In many of the region's small towns, demand has far outstripped supply as Italy's young people flock to larger cities.
