Elia Viviani golden! Finally Elia, the Prophet of our track, born in Isola della Scala (Verona) on February 7, 1989. Gold in the Elimination in the last race of the Track World Championships in the Jean Stablinski velodrome in Roubaix, France, beating the Portuguese Leitao in the last sprint. After four medals, here is his first gold on track, his first great love in cycling.

The Elimination is the race he loves the most, the one that combines power, concentration and strategy, and of which he was European champion in 2018. Twenty-two riders at the start, one is eliminated every two laps (so 500 meters: the race lasts 11 km). With Viviani's, Italy closes this Roubaix rainbow review with 10 medals.

4 Gold: Martina Fidanza in the scratch; Letizia Paternoster in the elimination; the male quartet of the team pursuit (Ganna, Lamon, Consonni, Milan and Bertazzo); Elia Viviani in the elimination. 3 Silvers: the women's quartet in the team pursuit (Alzini, Fidanza, Balsamo, Paternoster, Consonni); Jonathan Milan in the individual pursuit; Michele Scartezzini-Simone Consonni in the Americana. 3 Bronze Medals: Elisa Balsamo in the Omnium; Filippo Ganna in the Individual Pursuit; Elia Viviani in the Omnium

Viviani's first medal at the Worlds is 10 years old - silver in the scratch at Apeldoorn 2011 -, then in 2015 came the silver in the Americana and the bronze in the Omnium. Saturday the bronze again in the Omnium, the specialty in which he was Olympic champion in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020, and now this gold. Elia is the tutelary deity of our track, the example that inspired Filippo Ganna.
