When the Tonale crossover makes its debut next year, it will mark the beginning of a major transformation at Italy’s Alfa Romeo. The Tonale will become the first model Alfa offers with a plug-in drivetrain. And it will become one of the last products the Italian brand will sell using an internal combustion engine. By 2027, in fact, Alfa plans to go 100% electric, it has confirmed.
It will join at least four other international Stellantis brands—including Fiat, Opel, DS and Lancia—scheduled to make the switch to battery-electric power before the end of the decade. All 14 of the company’s brands will eventually go electric, even Dodge which is set to get a battery-powered muscle car by around mid-decade.
