A new Trattoria Romana is now open and serving lunch, dinner and brunch in Johnston, at 1571 Atwood Ave. If that address sounds familiar, it's because it has been the home of Osteria Toscana since 2015. Chef Luciano Canova's Torre Restaurant Group has rebranded the 100-seat restaurant to capitalize on his Trattoria Romana brand. The Johnson location adds lunch service to the menu, and an outdoor patio and large bar, and keeps the popular Sunday brunch.
Canova, the Italian culinary impresario who established elegant Italian dining at Luciano’s in Wrentham, Massachusetts, in 1991, started his Rhode Island chain with the opening of the first Trattoria Romana, in Lincoln, in 2007. A second one, Trattoria Romana South, followed in Wakefield, and last year, a third Trattoria Romana opened as a franchise in the Tiverton Casino Hotel. However, the latter location recently closed.
