Middle Village Catholics have lost one of their more beloved religious figures. Monsignor Nicholas Sivillo, the former pastor of Our Lady of Hope Church at 61-27 71 St., died last Friday night at the age of 76. According to Rev. Michael Carrano, the church's pastor, Sivillo recently suffered a stroke and had been ill ever since.
Sivillo was born of Italian immigrants in Brooklyn in 1938 and served as pastor at the Middle Village church from 1988 until his retirement in 2009. According to Carrano, he was beloved by many parishioners, both past and present. Services for Sivillo took place on Sunday and Monday at Hillebrand Funeral Home in Rego Park and he was laid to rest on Tuesday at St. John Cemetery in Middle Village.
