The City of Buffalo is moving forward with their Lake Erie waterfront developments and as they proceed, Monsignor Fred R. Voorhes of St. Anthony's Church wishes to recognize the Italian heritage and ancestors who built the foundations of the City.
St. Anthony of Padua parish, in downtown Buffalo behind City Hall, is taking steps to build a museum highlighting not only the history of St. Anthony's but also the richness of the Italian heritage of the Buffalo area. St. Anthony's is the only Italian National parish in the Diocese of Buffalo, offering a Sunday Mass in Italian and hosts many special celebrations throughout the year.
The parish has several artifacts and space but needs funding to purchase display cases, shelving and lighting along with items to enhance their inventory. They are calling not only for financial support but also getting the word out.
"A local Italian-American collector of religious art has agreed to loan several of his priceless items to St. Anthony's Museum for display when it opens.
