Everyone is Italian at the 34th annual Festa Italiana, where the first night kicked off under beautiful clear blue skies and big crowds Thursday. The savory aromas of authentic Italian fare and a multitude of Italian flags waving in the breeze welcomed Italian festival-goers at Mt. St. Peter's Parish in New Kensington.
The three-day festival raises money for parish "capital repairs" — a fancy word for building and maintenance costs, said the Rev. Michael Begolly, who has served the parish for 10 years and is the first non-Italian priest in Mt. St. Peter history.
