Gianna Cipponeri, a 2014 Modesto High School International Baccalaureate graduate, was crowned Miss America in June during the Queen's Pageant of the 78th Grand Convention of the Grand Lodge of California, Order Sons of Italy in America, in Millbrae.

The nonprofit, fraternal organization was founded in 1922 and represents Americans of Italian descent residing in California, Nevada and southern Oregon. It focuses on sharing Italian heritage and culture and helping young students study the Italian language through educational programs and scholarships.
