The recovering heroin addict from Italy who disappeared for two days after completing the New York City Marathon was never supposed run the big race, got lost because he dropped a card with the address of the hotel where he was staying — and stayed awake because he was too scared to get any shut-eye. "I was afraid to fall asleep because I was in a city I didn't know," Gianclaudio Marengo told The Post.

Marengo, 30, who speaks no English, came to New York with fellow patients of the San Patrignano drug rehabilitation center.Although he's an active runner, Marengo wasn't scheduled to participate in the Nov. 1 race. But then his therapist, Antonio Boschini, an official race entrant, didn't feel well at the last moment — and offered Marengo his NYC Marathon bib.
