A talk on Puccini's Messa di Gloria, by Richard Giarusso

Nov 08, 2018 988

You are cordially invited to “A talk on Puccini's Messa di Gloria”, by Richard Giarusso. Friday, November 16, 2018, at 6:30 pm. ICS Headquarters - 4833 Rugby Ave. Suite 201, Bethesda, MD 20814. Join conductor, singer, and scholar, Richard Giarusso, Chair of the Musicology Department at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and Music Director of the Georgetown Chorale, for a conversation about Puccini's exquisite and little known Messa a 4 voci con orchestra (commonly known as the Messa di Gloria).

Written in 1880 when Puccini was 22 and performed only once in the composer's lifetime, the Mass displays Puccini's connection to earlier 19th-century Italian traditions while also pointing ahead to developments that would come to define Puccini's storied career as one of the greatest opera composers of all time. The thirty-minute talk, with musical examples, precedes the Georgetown Chorale's performance of the Mass on Saturday, December 1. (See our webpage Upcoming Events). Enjoy a glass of Prosecco afterwards! RSVP and donate online or via email: [email protected] (The event is free, but a $5-10 Donation is appreciated, especially if Non-Member. Thank you!)
